Y5T & N4700 dielectric ceremic material used in High voltage ceramic capacitors

High voltage ceramic capacitors are available in thin-plate cylindrical and other forms and can be made using different materials to provide varying levels of suitability for different needs. HVC capacitors are available in two main materials, namely N4700 and Y5T, which are used based on customer needs and price expectations.

Y5T is a widely used material that performs exceptionally well in most high-voltage generators and other products. This product is stable and has performance characteristics close to N4700 material products. However, the cost is relatively low. Thin film capacitors are increasingly being used in high-voltage generators as new products. As a standalone product, cost is a factor for consideration by businesses. However, the high-frequency performance of Y5T ceramic material for high-voltage capacitors is far inferior to N4700 which limits its use to non-high voltage stepped-up circuits. Nevertheless, our Y5T material is very mature and cost-effective, so we replace certain foreign brands’ products such as Y5U or Z5U products with a higher-grade Y5T material. Customers report lower D.F values, demonstrating performance that is comparable to foreign Z5U products.

Some Chinese capacitor manufacturers produce Y5V and Y5P materials because they are relatively cheap. However, they eventually discover that these products are unable to address certain fatal issues resulting from the materials used. The extreme low-end materials are cheap, which is portrayed in their electrical performance. This is due to their high D.F value, insulation resistance value only a fraction of Y5T products and tens of fractions of N4700 products.

For high-end high-voltage machine customers, N4700 material is usually utilised, such as in electrostatics, high-voltage pulses, medical X-ray machines, security-check equipment, industrial flaw detection, and others. This material performs well in all aspects of high-voltage ceramic capacitors, with high-voltage resistance levels, high-frequency resistance reaching 100kHz or above, to a certain extent heat resistant, insulation resistance value of more than 200,000 Ohms and a loss less than 0.2%. N4700 material is costly due to its patented formulas and strontium titanate content. Military, aerospace, and medical device customers now utilise N4700 materials. Non-high-frequency high-voltage generators typically use Y5T material.

Y5T is a medium-cost high voltage ceramic capacitor material. It is more expensive than materials such as Y5V, Y5U, and Y5P. Y5T material’s cost is lower than N4700, which is more suited to the South Asian market for cost-effective applications.

Performance:

High capacitance: Y5T capacitors can have a maximum capacitance of up to 3300pf, such as the 15KV 3300PF Y5T model.

Good stability: temperature coefficient is +22%/-33%, with a relative degree of stability.

Good dielectric properties: Y5T capacitors have low leakage current and low dielectric loss. The loss tangent value is less than or equal to approximately 0.5%.

Good voltage resistance: the highest operating voltage can reach over 40KV.

Low cost: Y5T is relatively inexpensive, making it suitable for low-cost, large-scale production compared with class one high-frequency ceramics.

Application:

Electronic circuitry: Y5T capacitors are suitable for use in electronic circuits with no high temperature or stability requirements.

Automotive electronics: Used in automotive electronic components such as air conditioning controllers and in-car entertainment systems.

Lighting circuitry: Y5T capacitors can be used in LED lighting systems, such as powering lamps.

However, manufacturers in Europe, America, Japan, and some other countries rarely adopt materials of this type and instead commonly use Y6P, Y5P and other materials.
